relevance is a word written all over this mcdonald's ad for tweens. the story told in this ad is one that every tween and yes, every parent of a tween understand, has experienced and can agree with.
this ad makes mcdonald's as the fast food chain for real people, making it look very much a part of pinoy life. they have been coming out with great ads very similar to this one. we applaud them and hope they will not stop coming up with ads like these.
one of the key barriers for patronage of mcdonald's in this market is it is less pinoy than jollibee. ads like this chips away on that barrier. in fact the recent ads of mcdonald's shows it is successfully shedding that barrier.
this ad is 5 stars!
today's AMAZING TV AD : honda's "cog" 2 minute tv spot
for more on this, go to this post : http://the-wawam-file.blogspot.com/2008/04/cog-honda-tv-spot-another-amazing-ad.html; april 14 post.
the inspiration is mount pinatubo when some years ago, all of a sudden, after decades of being dormant, it decided to erupt, spewing debris and ash several kilometers high, blowing ashes to float everywhere, far and wide, turning the skies gloomy gray as far away as metro manila, hundreds of kilometers away, covering metro manila streets and rooftops with thick ash. the pinatubo eruption was so powerful that its ashes changed the color of sunsets not only in the philippines but also worldwide.
that's what happens when clients and advertising agencies decide to run ads not worthy to be called advertising. its dark, its huge and very irritating and unfortunately, everywhere!
all they are doing is wawam! what a waste of advertising money!

If an actual tween were to watch this often enough during his/her regular TV viewing sessions, he'd probably end up copying the kids in the commercial and start thinking about dating and relationships with the opposite sex at such an early age. It's just wrong, and it's not very Filipino. You don't condone dating between 10-year olds here in our country.
ReplyDeleteI disagree that it's real. What parents in their right mind would allow their 10-year old daughter to wait all alone outside McDonald's? Too many bad people these days.
tweens do date. there are parents who allow their tweens to go on dates. you can see that in the malls very often. most go out in a group but there are many who go on just a pair of them.
ReplyDeletedifferent strokes, different folks. there are many parents who do not see anything wrong with tweens dating.
however, the point of this ad is not to encourage tweens to date. the point is to show how mcdonald's has become a part of the daily lives of pinoys, pinoy tweens in particular. mcdonald's in truth is a great hang-out place for tweens - it's clean, it's comfortable and it has food ans drinks they like and can afford. satrabucks, the hang-out place for adults is just too expensive for the tweens to afford, not to mention no food that they like.
