today's AMAZING TV AD : honda's "cog" 2 minute tv spot

for more on this, go to this post : http://the-wawam-file.blogspot.com/2008/04/cog-honda-tv-spot-another-amazing-ad.html; april 14 post.
the inspiration is mount pinatubo when some years ago, all of a sudden, after decades of being dormant, it decided to erupt, spewing debris and ash several kilometers high, blowing ashes to float everywhere, far and wide, turning the skies gloomy gray as far away as metro manila, hundreds of kilometers away, covering metro manila streets and rooftops with thick ash. the pinatubo eruption was so powerful that its ashes changed the color of sunsets not only in the philippines but also worldwide.

that's what happens when clients and advertising agencies decide to run ads not worthy to be called advertising. its dark, its huge and very irritating and unfortunately, everywhere!

all they are doing is wawam! what a waste of advertising money!

here is a first row view of Philippine Advertising and Philippine Marketing.

mount pinatubo erupts shooting ashes several kilometers high, then floating to blanket many other towns hundreds of kilometers away

nestle give-me-a-name is closed! they have chosen a name

the nestle website is now closed. nestle has chosen a name!

but they are not telling us what name it is they have chosen. hahaha. they did say it's one of the entries but contrary to previous announcements in the website, they are not telling us what it is.

there's a form there where they're asking us to type in our email address but its not for the purpose of telling us what name was chosen. but for the purpose of letting us know "when the product is available"! hahaha.

the form was very poorly designed that the top half of the fonts "when the product is available" are covered by the box form that you can hardly read the words. was that intentional? or an innocent design mistake? i guess, like the name, we will never know! hahaha

  1. Yep, i checked their website, the winning entry was not posted. i've been monitoring their website for months since I read wawam! posts. This give-me-a-name contest has dragged on for like ... forever. If I'm not mistaken, it was written on their website that announcement of winners will be on March 31, 2008. In their flyers, promo ends December 31, 2007 and the winner was supposed to claim the prize within 60 days after the promo ended. So this implies result(s) should have been announced way before February 2008. But until now, a simple announcement of the winning entry, di nila magawa clean and straightforward.

What would happen when the winning entry is finally be announced? The winner will be elated. The losers (most especially those fanatics who kept posting and voting for their entries up to the last minute) would be quite p****d and would hate Nestle for the result(s). The remaining majority, who didn't even bother to check the website or vote after the contest promo expired, basically don't care. Their reaction when the result is announced would be: "oh? ngayon pa lang ang result? Tagal na nito ah".

This promo/contest has created for me such a bad impression about Nestle's marketing team. With inefficient, disorganized, wishy-washy team like this, no wonder Nestle's brands no longer command major market shares like they used to.

  2. i have to agree, this promo or whatever you call it was very ill-concieved to say the least.

i'm wondering about that too - nestle is one of the largest marketing organizations in the world and in the philippines - how come this was badly planned and so ill-concieved?

  3. anonymous - i share your views on the nestle brand group that managed the give-me-a-name. they were very sloppy in almost everything, from the strategic thinking part and down to the planning and execution parts of the effort.very amateurish.

i don't think nestle has gained any goodwill at all with this effort and at great expense at their part.
