i'm torn on this ad - is it a good one or not?
it is funny and for sure it will catch attention, but do i want my brand to be associated with such humor and the idea that the ad dramatizes? is it a polarizing ad? i've always erred on the side of caution whenever it comes to ads where there is a risk that some will like it but some might not. advertising is an investment, and it is a very costly one. when you air a new commercial, the proper attitude is that, it might be your last and therefore make sure it's your best and it works. an adman must have a "take no prisoners" attitude on that one.
the idea of not taking things by just the way they look is a good one for a mortgage company. it tells consumers to always look deeply into the mortgage companies before they engage their services. and that with ameriquest, they will always work their hardest for you.
BUT is this the only creative concept that can dramatically demonstrate that thought and in a funny way too? that certainly would have been my first question if the ad agency presented this storyboard to me.
well, i hope the ad agency does not schedule the airing of this ad during meaL times.
today's AMAZING TV AD : honda's "cog" 2 minute tv spot

the inspiration is mount pinatubo when some years ago, all of a sudden, after decades of being dormant, it decided to erupt, spewing debris and ash several kilometers high, blowing ashes to float everywhere, far and wide, turning the skies gloomy gray as far away as metro manila, hundreds of kilometers away, covering metro manila streets and rooftops with thick ash. the pinatubo eruption was so powerful that its ashes changed the color of sunsets not only in the philippines but also worldwide.
that's what happens when clients and advertising agencies decide to run ads not worthy to be called advertising. its dark, its huge and very irritating and unfortunately, everywhere!
all they are doing is wawam! what a waste of advertising money!
